Family 2 Family Food Drive

Our teens spent the last month and a half seeking donations and collecting cans, all to create a box with $40 of canned goods/non-perishables, a homemade loaf of pumpkin bread, and a full-size smoked turkey... actually, make that 187 boxes, loaves, and turkeys for 187 families! Plus, 50 more families received H.E.B. cards. That's over 10,000 lbs of food + gift cards to feed people! This year, God received great "thanks" because of their "giving!"

The group went to Boles Children's Home in Quinlan, TX. They worked hard to refinish furniture, clean and landscape cabins, build porch swings, gravel a playground, and tile bathrooms. In addition to the manual work, they also built relationships with teen residents, led devotionals/worship, and provided a VBS for single moms and about 40 kids.

The teens in the student ministry are given opportunities to share their God-given talents of speech, music, art, technology, etc with our church family during Sunday worship. It is always a blessing to hear the words of our God through the hearts of these guys and girls.

Our PurposeThe Unashamed Student Ministry is made up of people from all walks of life. No two people's stories are the same, but all have a common final chapter - Jesus. We exist to encourage and empower students and their families to better image Christ in their homes and communities.True change starts with God working in ME!

Our Student and Family Ministers

Marty and Melissa Baker joined the ministry in October of 2010. They have a huge passion for Christ that is reflected in their ministry to teens and families. Marty has a BA in Youth and Family Ministry and a MA in Theology from Lubbock Christian University, as well as work toward a Master's of Divinity degree from Abilene Christian University. Melissa has taught MS/HS students in public schools for 7 years. Melissa has worked for various ministries for 8 years, and Marty has ministered to teens and families for 10 years. They have a son, Dawson, and a daughter, Marlee. We are excited to have the Bakers leading this ministry.

Needing Volunteers

Our ministry is always looking for people who are passionate about Christ and wanting to interact with teens. So please don't hesitate to contact Marty if you are interested in getting involved!*In order to best protect our teens and volunteers, we require background checks, references, and informal interviews for all volunteers to ensure that every person involved is able to use their talents in the best possible capacity.

Family Ministry

The Unashamed Student Ministry is a part of an over-arching ministry of the Georgetown Church of Christ to help families Know, Love, and Serve God. It is our desire to partner with parents/guardians and equip them to embrace their God-given role as the spiritual caregivers of their homes. Therefore, we encourage families to get involved as sponsors, teachers, and mentors on our team.

Staff LeadersThe Georgetown Church of Christ is equipped with male and female staff who have been trained to work with teens and their families.

Adult LeadersWe encourage adults of all ages to get involved in the student ministry. Everyone has something to offer. So the only question is, "How can God use you in this ministry?"

Teen Leaders We believe God has gifted each person with talents of all shapes and sizes. Therefore, every teenager is encouraged to take a leadership role in the ministry and its endeavors.

Thanks be to God for this awesome youth group and the summer we got to share together.

Samantha ~This summer just got better as it progressed. At Bowles, we experienced someone's life forever changed by baptism. We also saw the group cross some age boundaries and work together for long periods of time in the hot sun. And we learned how much we have and that we should be grateful for a wonderful church family and home life. But God has changed our aspect of purity this summer - what it means to be pure in every part of our lives, and we should live in such a way that he would be unashamed to call us his children.
